Do you use a LOCAL or NATIONAL home owners insurance company?
My husband and I bought our house about 11 months ago. We’re going to do some insurance shopping next week (house & both cars together). We have a local company and although they were the cheapest we found last year, I’m not really comfortable with them.

Five days after we moved into our house, the mortgage company sent us a letter saying that our home owners insurance had been denied and that we had two weeks to find new insurance or face foreclosure. It ended up being a clerical error on behalf of our half-witted agent. BUT, that error almost got us kicked out of our house less than a week after we moved in! They never mailed us or called us to tell us about the situation. They have never provided any common customer service courtesy.

So, we’re looking at Allstate & State Farm in particular. I’m ok with paying a little extra to get better customer service. Do you use a local company or a big one? Do you like the company? Do you have any horror stories about Allstate or State Farm? Or are they both good?

"During these years of prosperity, South Africa was attracting the attention of British evangelicals, who were pushing to free the nonwhite races. In 1835 the damnable Brits passed an insane piece of civil rights legislation called Ordinance 50, in which all policies of racial segregation were banned, the Negro was given full citizenship to vote, severe taxes were imposed, the prohibition of their native language, Afrikaans, and the stipulation that any repeal or amendments could only be done in England. This law of race traitors left the Afrikaners (the White Christians) feeling that they had lost control over their lives and destiny to a foreign power arrayed against them on the side of those who were not of their race.

Missionaries from the Anglican church, headed by the Queen, preached a radical pro-Negro policy advocating interracial marriage. As an example to others, many missionaries and demented Whites in the Cape Colony married Black women and founded interracial schools. They urged the Black and White children to socialize with each other. They brazenly paraded the children through the streets with signs saying ‘we are of one blood’. The Voortrekkers or Boers knew that the blasphemy of institutionalized miscegenation would doom their culture. They defied the demands of the British to return to the coastal cities, and those within proximity to the Cape Colony, unable to survive or comprehend these liberal ideas, abandoned their businesses and farms, which were quickly pilfered by wandering free Negros and British carpetbaggers grabbing property for their own use. Negro tribes were now pouring into South Africa to take advantage of the British order that no retaliation be taken against Blacks who raped, looted and murdered Whites. The colonial magistrate actually ordered that the rampaging Blacks be considered innocent because, if they were treated with tolerance, they would behave properly.

Anna Steenkamp recorded that the British had placed the Negros on an equal footing with the Christians, contrary to the laws of God so that it was intolerable for any decent Christian to bow down beneath such a yoke "wherefore we withdrew in order thus to preserve our doctrines in purity. " Imbued with this spirit, some 12,000 Afrikaners packed their bags and loaded their covered wagons and left the colony, and started the famous ‘Great Trek’ into the unknown desolate lands of the north. The fierce Zulu warriors were at the peak of their power and knew no mercy. Often the Zulus would pretend friendship or ask for a truce, and then would brutally slaughter the emissaries. They would surround White farming communities and attack with spears and hatchets. Women and children would be raped and then tortured to death. The most famous of massacres, which prompted Blood River, was February 5, 1838, when the Voortrekkers tried to negotiate a land settlement with the Zulu king, Dengane. This is rather interesting, because we were only taught that the Afrikaners were oppressed by the English…NEVER have I heard any of the other stuff.
Except….the Zulu part.
Initially the Zulu’s, under King Tshaka, allowed white people to live/ trek in peace. He was murdered by his half brother, King Dingane, and only then did the Zulu’s go to war with the Voortrekkers (Pioneers).

The rest of it…is all new to my ears.

Feels odd being considered smart and good-looking? Why?
I love science and maths, plain and simple. I’ve actually turned down dates to stay home and read a book on evolution or do vector calculus. I wish that was a joke. Actually, I’ve gotten in trouble, countless times, for being lost in a math problem or a book when I was meant to be on the pitch for practice, or worse yet, a game. Heck, I tape my kindle to the bar while on the bench press. Again, not a joke, sadly.
Suffice it to say, I like learning and, to that effect, I do well in school. Everyone always tells me how smart I am…It really doesn’t help my ego.

Since I enjoy learning, like the nerd that I am, I like spending lunch in the library. My soccer buddies go out for lunch, and I find my way into a book. Whenever I look up however, I always find girls — and trust me, "they ain’t there for the readin’" as my friend once put it to me. I’ve never really payed much attention to girls. I usually have to be…ahem, in a not so sober state, before I even bother with them. They are, however, everywhere I go. They’re constantly asking me out/inviting me places and I’m SUCH a nerd. It makes little sense to my why a 6 foot tall, blonde cheerleader would be interested in a guy who likes vector calculus. They use to think I was gay (not that there is anything wrong with being gay) now these chicks just invite me out and get me drunk before I have the good sense to leave.

This feels so very weird. It’s been like this for years, I suppose, but I’m 17 and starting to notice it more and more….It feels so very, very weird.

Why must it feel odd being considered smart and good-looking at the same time?
I know man, I sound like a braggart here.

Well you should be happy with yourself! You shouldn’t feel weird, but proud! You are a smart guy, who also has good looks. That’s what most people would dream of. It’s called being well rounded. Focus on girls when you want to, but for now, just try and balance the learning and sports; and well of course friends. Like how you had said you were thinking of math during practice or a game, well focus on the game when you need to and then during school that’s when you think about a math problem.

You need to learn that you shouldn’t label you or anyone else.. and yes, you labeled yourself as a ‘nerd’. You are a smart guy, who is into learning, that’s great! Be happy about that. Don’t feel weird that you have been blessed
